Nutrition Support for Cats with CKD

At Fetching Foods, we understand the worry that comes with a CKD diagnosis for your cat. But you're not alone—and there's real hope. Our customized raw and gently cooked diets are formulated with low phosphorus, high-quality proteins, and nutraceuticals to provide balanced nutrition that supports kidney function while meeting or exceeding the AAFCO nutritional guidelines. This is miles from a homemade or highly processed diet.

Unlike most raw food brands, we specialize in exceptional-quality tailored meals for cats needing extra care. It's fresh, natural food that can make a difference in your cat's daily comfort and vitality.

Why Diet is the First Step in CKD Care

Diet for your CKD cat is always the first step in management because it plays such a big role in preventing other health issues from occurring.

A renal diet has four main goals:
1) Reduce the accumulation of waste products in the blood
2) Minimize problems with fluid and mineral balance
3) Provide adequate nutrition
4) Modify/slow progression of CKD
To achieve these goals, a successful CKD diet restricts protein, phosphorus, and sodium, while including increased moisture, omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, antioxidants, and water-soluble vitamins.
Further, the use of high-end, human-grade ingredients produce less waste and few by-products when metabolized. Our ‘clean’ meals are highly and easily digestible while not placing additional burden on the kidneys.

The Diet: An Overview

Raw or Gently Cooked diets can support kidney function by boosting natural moisture, lowering phosphorus, and delivering bioavailable nutrients that kibble or canned foods often lack.

Benefits of a Kidney-Supportive Diet:
1) Studies show low-phosphorus, fresh protein diets help manage symptoms like nausea and weight loss, improving appetite and quality of life*.
2) The high moisture in fresh diets aids hydration, easing kidney workload. We balance calcium and phosphorus naturally, add omega-3s to reduce inflammation, and include herbals like dandelion and milk thistle for gentle detox*.
3) Every meal is customized—easy on kidneys, exactly what they need, delicious for your cat.
