The guinea hen, or guinea fowl, has West African origins. It’s a small and hardy bird related to the chicken and partridge, with darker meat than either.
In early Rome and Greece, the birds were imported and served as a great favorite of the nobles. When the Roman Empire collapsed, however, the bird’s popularity vanished along with it. It wasn’t until the sixteenth century that the Portuguese, who by then had conquered Guinea, introduced pintada to France. The Portuguese name, meaning painted or spotted bird, became pintade in French.
We use birds from a small California farm where hens are humanely raised from the highest grade of French breeding stock to ensure a top quality organic bird. Their diet consists of corn and wheat alfalfa, with no antibiotics or hormones ever used. Air-chilling helps preserve the meat’s texture and flavor and because of this, the skin is not water-logged.
If your cat enjoys chicken, Guinea Hen is almost a guaranteed hit. This is a protein often ordered in our Custom Meals.

Fetching foods is the highest quality natural USDA Human-Grade food for Dogs and Cats.
For animal lovers, it’s no mystery why we care so deeply for our furry friends – there’s an undeniable and extraordinary bond formed between us and our pets. We believe that we should not feed our animals anything we wouldn’t eat ourselves. It’s a much higher standard than simply ‘human-grade’. Spam(r) is human grade food.

This is my boys favorite new protein. I switched the raw and Fetching Foods because Steve is diabetic…looking back I wish I’d been feeding correctly all along. I’d have saved myself and my kitties lots of pain and heartbreak (and money) by serving the proper diet.

Food is excellent quality and my cat has been loving it. I made the change to Fetching foods after my cat continued to have GI issues on other foods. I feel the food from Fetching has been helping the GI issues calm down.

Two paws up for the Guinea hen! My crew all loved it!
I wasn’t sure about trying this one, but glad we took the chance. Only way it could be better would be if it were made with Guinea hen egg so it could count completely as a novel protein for my IBD girl.
